M.W. Stevens is an American singer-songwriter. As a kid, he had always wanted to be a performer, but was kicked out of every choral group he signed up for. He gave up on these dreams, but reignited the flame after discovering a rusted acoustic guitar in the basement. Using scotch tape to protect his fingers from the rust, and pennies as guitar pics, Stevens began writing music, eventually performing his first song “Trepidation” at the age of 16 to over a thousand people.
The experience led Stevens to play in bands such as the alternative band Lateshift with Ernie Fowler, the comedy duo Hint of Pledge with Insane Ian, and later the acoustic jam fusion trio Stark Madness. After building a piecemeal home studio with parts from Radio Shack and Sears, recorded and released his first album, a collection of acoustic songs, in 2004.
In the years that followed, Stevens has since earned a side-hustle as an acoustic rock performer, having headlined spaces such as Rams Head Live and Five Martini Bar.
His music draws inspiration from the post-grunge era of the late 90’s, but is always striving to be original and different, at the risk of being artsy and experimental.
